The loved ones of young people lost after a deadly fire at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an painful wait for official news and pleading for any details about their family members online.

The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Verified images reveal the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Officials have indicated that it could take an extended period to identify the those who perished of the disaster, which claimed the lives of 40 people and hurt another 119. Officials stated on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with work continuing to name the final individuals.

In the waiting period, families and friends have been taking to the internet to appeal for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that evening.
